Sports Leagues

As with the other solutions from TeamScheduler this is not a one-size fits all.

The First Sports League solution was for a Golf League, which was being managed “very” manually.

Fixtures were posted to clubs and captains, matches were organised and only recorded by the individual teams.

When matches were played the results were sent to the administrator via post cards, the results recorded and the league updated and the current status sent out monthly.

Cup games were a particular challenge with this “snail mail” communication.

The first version of the solution got around the initial problem of visibility of the League status.

The second version provided the ability for Club Captains to record match dates and results.

The third, current, version now includes complete automation in terms of recording dates and results, but now includes automation of promotion and demotion at the end of the season.

The only manual intervention is the allocation of Clubs to the Cups schedules following the draw, at the Annual General Meeting. After that everything is automated, including moving winners through the draw and taking loser to a Plate competition. A virtual random coin toss assigns home and away status.

Automated scheduling chases up Captains to post match dates and results, and reminders of upcoming matches.

Points scoring for the leagues has incorporated a non-standard solution, so you are not restricted to X points for a win, Y points for a draw and score difference for league ties (like the Football league).

The leagues have

  1. Points for Win or Draw plus matches won – this got around an issue where matches stopped once the win was reached
  2. Points allocated differently for individual game results to balance the home advantage, particular to golf course, so Home Win 3 points, Home Draw 1 point, Away Draw 2 points and Away Win 4points
    So a 6 game match with 3 Home Wins 2 Draws and 1 Away Win would score Home 3 x 3 + 2 x 1 = 11 and Away 2 x 2 + 1 x 4 = 8 points
  3. Different match formats and numbers of games

If you have a need for a sports league, then we can accommodate your needs.
